Enjoy an unforgettable golfing experience at Santa Claus Golf in Ounasvaara, Rovaniemi and cross the Arctic Circle while golfing. Santa Claus Golf is a beautiful and interesting golf cource with northern characters, just a few minutes from the center of Rovaniemi. Built at the feet of Ounasvaara fell, the winding fairways on the forestry hillsides offer a relaxing golfing experience and beautiful views.
The summer golf season starts in May and continues until the beginning of October. In June and July you can play around the clock under the midnight sun as the sun does not set at all. The reindeer that roam freely on the golf course, might join you on your round. The clubhouse restaurant with it’s sunny terrace and proshop serve you before and after your 18 hole. During the game you can enjoy Lappish delicacies like reindeer sausages offered by the excellent fairway cafe after hole 10.
Holes
Hole 1 (Par 5)
The first hole is wide and quite easy, apart from the water hazard on the right side of the fairway. With long openings, you can reach the green with two strokes.
Difference in altitude + 8 meters. HCP 5.
Hole 2 (Par 3
A short Par3, that climbs up the hill. The green is out of sight.
Difference in altitude + 7 meters. HCP 17.
Hole 3 (Par 4)
A Dogleg to the right, that requires a precise opening at about 170 m downhill, for a good approach to the green. Water hazards on the fairway.
Difference in altitude -17 meters. HCP 3.
Hole 4 (Par 5)
The hole turns slightly left and climbs uphill since the second stroke. Despite the climb you can see the green and the flag at all times. With long openings, you can reach the green with two strokes.
Difference in altitude +10 meters. HCP 9.
Hole 5 (Par 5)
A long and straight Par5 with forest to avoid on both sides of the wide fairway. Be aware of the water hazard on the right side at the middle of the fairway.
Difference in altitude -6 meters. HCP 7.
Hole 6 (Par 3)
A long Par3 in a gently sloping hill, with a wide and flat green protected by a bunker on front.
Difference in altitude +1 meters. HCP 13.
Hole 7 (Par 4)
A challenging left turning Par4 that begins as a gentle downhill. Due to the ditch on the side and back of the green the approaches have to be precisely targeted.
Difference in altitude -7 meters. HCP 1.
Hole 8 (Par 4)
Opening to the gentle uphill over the water hazard. Up the hill the fairway is wider than it seems. The green area offers different kind of challenges.
Difference in altitude +8 meters. HCP 11.
Hole 9 (Par 3)
A fun and demanding hole. The multilevel green protected by bunkers left and right requires an accurate approach. The views from the green are spectacular.
Difference in altitude +1 meter. HCP 15.
Hole 10 (Par 4)
One of the finest holes. A short downhill Par4 with a small pine group in the middle of the fairway that divides the route into two. The green area is diverse and challenging. The fairway cafe serves the players after this hole.
Difference in altitude -7 meters. HCP 16.
Hole 11 (Par 4)
A gently rising left turning Par4, with the green out of sight in the tee box. Despite that, a clear, simple and beautiful fairway.
Difference in altitude +9 meters. HCP 10.
Hole 12 (Par 5)
The most spectacular hole that tests the player’s abilities. One can be very satisfied when getting to the green of the Par5 with three strokes. The fairway climbs all the way to the green that is located on the highest point of the course and opens up to a magnificent landscape. On the fairway there are both water hazards and bunkers.
Difference in altitude +18 meters. HCP 2.
Hole 13 (Par 4)
A left turning Par4 dogleg starting with a smaller downhill before a steep downhill. An interesting hole and with a moderate game an easy one.
Difference in altitude -28 meters. HCP 12.
Hole 14 (Par 3)
A Par3 named as Marilyn by the locals after the undulating green, requires precision as the green slopes down to the sides, especially to the right. An uphill fairway, but the green is visible.
Difference in altitude +8 meters. HCP 18.
Hole 15 (Par 4)
One of the most spectacular holes opening downhill to great views to the river valley and nearby fells.
Difference in altitude -22 meters. HCP 4.
Hole 16 (Par 4)
A dogleg to the left that requires a long and precise opening, preferably on the right side. Approach to the raised green.
Difference in altitude + 6 meters. HCP 6.
Hole 17 (Par 4)
A shorter fairway with a cross ditch at the beginning of the fairway, a water barrier on the right and a steep rising danger bank on the left. The approach requires precision due to the hill and the narrowness of the green. Green bunker on the right side of the green.
Difference in altitude +9 meters. HCP 8.
